Puckpool Farmhouse was originally part of the Puckpool Estate, constructed in early 18th Century, with use initially as a family home. It was rebuilt in its present style in 1822 as a Swiss style ‘cottage orne’ (decorated cottage) and originally called Cliff Cottage but later extended and renamed Puckpool House. Home to various affluent families it was later purchased by the War Department, to allow the building of Puckpool Battery, in order to protect the island from the perceived French invasion. During WWII it was used for training and other functions as well as being the residence of the commander, Captain Herbert Edwards.

More recently it was used as a café and staff accommodation for the neighbouring holiday camp which was reopened after the war in 1948. The house had been bought privately some time before the camps closure in 2006. Unfortunately, the house was left to decay and became semi -derelict before being bought by the present owners who embarked on an extensive restoration project to both house and gardens.

Location
Conveniently situated in a semi-rural setting the house is a short walk inland from the beaches and coastline of the north east shores of the island. The villages of Seaview and Nettlestone are less than 2 miles away and Bembridge with its harbour and extensive mooring facilities is also within easy reach. Bembridge and Seaview offer sailing clubs, restaurants, cafes and a range of amenities including the community run store in Seaview and organic produce shop and café in the centre of Bembridge. The Fast Cat and Hovercraft passenger services connect to the mainland from Ryde which is 3 minute drive/15 minute walk away. Ryde provides further comprehensive range of amenities including Ryde School. Excellent walks can be enjoyed along the beach either towards Appley beach or to Seaview and beyond to Priory Bay.

Puckpool House
The Grade II Listed building has been nominated for the Isle of Wight Conservation Awards 2020 having undergone comprehensive refurbishment to house and grounds, providing a beautiful family residence full of period character and charming features set within extensive grounds.
