The Island has long been a destination for people to escape for long weekends and Summer holidays, leaving behind the stresses of everyday life as they cross the Solent to be met with fresh air, beautiful beaches and scenic countryside. We speak to Katie Moore of Quay Management to see how a home on the Island could bring you not only many happy memories, but also an income.
So, how can Quay Management help you?
Quay Management has been successfully providing onshore accommodation in Cowes for over 20 years and has an extensive list of both private and corporate clients.
Currently there are around 200 properties being rented in Cowes and we manage approximately half of them, which we think speaks volumes about the long-standing service that we provide.
Having one of the largest portfolios of Cowes rental properties means we can offer accommodation for all the Cowes-based events and regattas, as well as all the other events going on across the Island.
How much can I expect to earn?
At Quay Management we believe making your home (especially your second home), profitable is key. After visiting your property, we will evaluate what rates we believe you can achieve. The basic method is to work out a cost per head per night, however large properties close to town and the marinas will carry a premium. Prices generally vary from £25 - £160 per head per night, depending on location, quality and size of your property.
The seasons, dates and events will affect the prices, but rest assured, we will always work with you to ensure you receive the best possible experience and a price.
Can I only let my property during the Summer?
A lot of activities on the Island happen during the Summer months, yes, however we provide accommodation to visitors all year round.
We have found in the last year that the Island is becoming a popular destination for families, couples’ weekends away, cycling tours and walking groups.
The Island has been named by lonely planet as one of the top ten cycling destinations in the world! Taking that on board we have now set up a sister company, Cowes Cycling which provides accommodation, bespoke packages, routes and guided tours for all ages and abilities, 365 days a year.
What if I want to use my home?
At Quay Management we make your property work for you. The house is your home and you have priority. You just tell us the dates you wish to block off (for yourself, friends or relatives), and we simply make sure those dates are kept for you.
Finally, what do you love about the Island?
Paddle boarding at Gurnard Green
The Isle of Wight is known to be a fantastic location to have go at a wide range of watersports. From kitesurfing and paddle boarding, to sailing and surfing. Being surrounded by water, means that no matter what the tide or wind direction, you will always be able to get out onto the water.
Gurnard Green is known for its stunning sunsets, during the summer I love to paddle out, watch the sun set and head for a bite to eat at The Woodvale. Two Elements offer paddle boards (and bike hire) from the centre of Cowes.
The Isle of Wight offers an incredible range of cycling from challenging road routes to wonderful, child friendly trails and caters for every level of ability. So, whether you want to take on the Red Squirrel trail with the kids or the Round the Island route with your cycling mates, Cowes Cycling have just the route for you.
You will have your breath taken away by the stunning scenery, and like so many before you, the Island will become a place you will come to time and time again, or even call home.
The Pointer Inn is well regarded by locals as a warm, welcoming family pub (dogs allowed) with great food! Their garden is ideal for sitting outside with a cider in the sunshine or perhaps a roast dinner by the fire in the winter. Other great options are The Blacksmiths, Blackwater, The Sun Inn, Hulverstone and The Taveners, Godshill – all brilliant to call in on whilst cycling as well!
