Brook Hill House was designed by architect Sir Aston Webb for the industrialist and politician Sir Charles Seely, 1st Baronet, one of the wealthiest men in Britain. David Seely (3rd Lord Mottistone) related how his grandfather ‘was so keen to have the view of the sea and Brook Hill has the best view of the sea around here’. The build commenced around 1910 but Charles Seely died about the same time that the house was completed in 1915. The author and playwright JB Priestley was in residence during the 1950’s.
